Sales and Marketing Director

Joe Books, a fast-growing, start-up comic and book publisher has an exciting new opportunity for a Sales and Marketing Director to help drive revenue for our products. We work with Disney, Marvel, LucasFilm, Universal, DreamWorks Animation, CBS and other major global media partners to create products based on some of the most famous characters and properties in the world. We’re looking for a sales leader to join our company to help us manage our significant growth. This position is based out of the Toronto office.

The Sales and Marketing Director is responsible for developing and increasing all sales and revenue streams for the company. The ideal candidate will be an experienced sales leader with the ability to achieve maximum profitability and growth while remaining in line with the company vision and values.

Primary Responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

  • Develop strategies for the book and comic markets that ensure attainment of company sales goals and profitability
  • Manage distribution relationships with Hachette Book Group, Diamond Comics, TNG as well as licensor sales departments
  • Expand sales within existing accounts, identify prospects, new markets, new clients, and other revenue opportunities
  • Set sales budgets and goals while controlling expenses to meet targets
  • Review potential product opportunities and provide sales estimates to evaluate new product licenses and categories
  • Process information relating to financial and cost/benefit analysis to help inform decisions in sales, marketing and publishing
  • Prepare and present action plans, development opportunities and marketing strategies to help drive revenue growth
  • Manage a wide variety of tradeshows, both consumer and B2B

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

  • Undergraduate degree or relevant work experience
  • 5+ years experience in sales and marketing
  • Solid interest and knowledge of pop culture industry and related products
  • Strong analytical and Excel system abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results and meet sales goals
  • Experience in managing and forecasting sales data
  • Proven leadership and ability to build and drive a sales team
  • Ability to effectively manage organization of a department
  • Positive, flexible attitude with a sense of humor and a strong work ethic
  • Strong business acumen with great closing skills
